Neva Pilgrim,    New Music in Syracuse:  35 Years and Counting

Soprano Neva Pilgrim has performed throughout the U.S. , Europe, Japan , and Canada with orchestras, opera companies, and at festivals.  She has recorded over 20 records and CDs.  In November 2001, Ms. Pilgrim accepted a New York State Governor's Arts Award on behalf of the Society for New Music.  She is a founding member of the Society, which is now celebrating its 36th season.  Located in Syracuse , the Society is the only year-round new music organization in upstate New York.  Ms. Pilgrim has been an artist-in-residence at Colgate since 1976 and has maintained a  private studio in New York City.

Frank Woolever,  Gandhi’s Seven Social sins/The Roots of Violence

Frank Woolever recently served three months in prison for an act of civil disobedience calling for the closure of the U. S. Army School of the Americas .  Mr. Woolever is a former priest; he was a counselor at the Onondaga Pastoral Counseling Center and executive director of L’Arche Syracuse.  He is active with many local organizations such as Pax Christi, Syracuse Peace Council,  Time of Jubilee, Jericho , and St. Andrew's Parish,  and is a speaker for the Social Action Ministry of the Diocese of Syracuse.  Among his honors was the 1994-1995 Thursday Morning Roundtable Community Service Award.

Nancy Cantor,  University-Community Connections for the Public Good

The 11th Chancellor and President of Syracuse University since 2004, Dr. Cantor is also Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Women's Studies.   She is a native New Yorker who came to Syracuse from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she was Chancellor.  Dr. Cantor has set in motion many plans that aim to enhance the university and the city of Syracuse by building connections between the two.    These include the Connective Corridor, which will link arts and cultural happenings, businesses, and neighborhoods in Syracuse .  Dr. Cantor received her A.B. in 1974 from Sarah Lawrence College and her Ph.D. in psychology in 1978 from Stanford University .

Kendall R. Phillips,  Films that Outraged America -- Sex, violence, race and religion in American cinema

Kendall Phillips is Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies at Syracuse University . Professor Phillip's attention to the rhetorical dimensions of film arose out of his interest in controversy and in our strong reactions to film  images.  His latest book is Projected Fears: Horror Films and American Culture.  He is working on one to be titled Controversial Cinema: The Films that Outraged America . In addition to the usual topics of sex and violence, Professor Phillips covers religion, race, politics, history, and children.  He is also host of WCNY's "Classic Movie Night," which airs Saturdays at 9pm.

Terry Culbertson,  Spirituality and Medicine

Rev. Terry Culbertson was appointed  University Hospital ’s first spiritual care manager in 2003. She provides  spiritual care to patients and spiritual education for SUNY Upstate's staff and medical students. Rev. Culbertson is Central New York ’s only board certified chaplain in the Association for Professional Chaplains.  She previously directed pastoral and spiritual  care at  the Interreligious Council of CNY, Loretto Geriatric Center ,  and The Hospice of CNY.  She has received awards from Eckerd Drugs, Association of Professional Chaplains, College of Chaplains, Women's Day magazine, and the Syracuse Herald America.

Julie Gedro,  Urban Cowgirls: Lesbians in Corporate America

Dr. Julie Gedro is an assistant professor of Business, Management and Economics at SUNY Empire State College, adjunct professor at SU and the University of Phoenix , and Head Coach for a human resources consulting company.  She is certified by the Society of Human Resource Management as a Professional in Human Resources.  Dr. Gedro earned her Ed.D. at the University of Georgia in 2000, with a thesis titled Urban Cowgirls:  How Lesbians Have Learned to Negotiate the Heterosexism of Corporate America.  She regularly presents at conferences and business and community workshops around the country.
